Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of our frequently asked questions and answers about our CSA. If you need further information, please contact us. |
wHAT IF I MISS MY PICK UP?
You'll always receive a reminder email the day before a pick up, so we're counting on you to give us a heads up if you can't get there. If you can’t pick up your C.S.A. share we strongly encourage you to ask a friend, neighbor, or family member to pick up for you. They just need to give your name at your designated pickup time .
If you realize you will miss your pick-up before it occurs you can call the farmer that coordinates your pick-up and arrange a way to get your vegetables. We will always do our best to make sure you get your produce but it is very difficult for our staff and farmers to coordinate individual pick-ups.
Each Global Gardens pick-up is coordinated by a different farmer so they are not always able arrange an alternative pickup for you. We cannot always hold your share after the drop off. If you miss picking up your share during the scheduled drop time, we cannot credit your account or replace your missed share.

wHEN DOES MY csa START?
The exact start and end dates depend on the weather during the early season, a late frost can set us back a week or two but fair weather means we could start earlier than estimated. If you have joined our CSA and signed up you will receive an email letting you know the first week of your pick-up about a week in advanced. We will you know the exact dates our crops will be ready for you to eat as soon as we do. Usually our first week of CSA pick -up is the last week of may. Click here for more information about CSA start dates.
The 2017 Global Gardens CSA is estimated to start the week of May 29th.

wHAT IF I GO ON VACATION?
If you go on vacation we recommend that you have a friend, neighbor, or family member pick-up your share for you. Its a great chance to share the yummy greens we grow. Unfortunately, we can not reimburse the cost of a share if you miss your pick-up due to vacation.
wHERE DO MY VEGETABLES COME FROM AND WHO GROWS THEM?
Global Gardens CSA is made up of a cooperative of refugee growers, and includes food from several different refugee farms.
Depending on which day you pick -up your food it is most likely coming from the following farm and growers:
Our Monday CSA is coordinated by Safiya Abdi, a graduate of our program. She has two farm sites with our program. One is at our Five mile farm location and the other is at the Liberty Street Community Garden.
Our Tuesday BSU CSA pick up is coordinated by Mariamu and Hadija Haji. Both have a plot at our Five Mile Farm site.
Our Tuesday Jordan Street CSA pick up is coordinated by Abdi Haji of Umoja na Uhuru World Farm. He is also a graduate from our program. Abdi has a farm at the Camille Beckman site and a an acre plot in east Boise on Holcomb road.
Our Meridian CSA is coordinated by Abdikadir Chimwaga. He started his pick up in the summer of 2015. His farm is at our Pond Street location.
Our Thursday CSA with the City of Boise pickup will be coordinated by Isha Muya who grows her vegetables at our liberty street farm and at our Saint Stephens farm site.
Sometimes we need to supplement our CSA with produce from farms outside of our Global Gardens Farms. This can be due to crop failures, limited space on our smaller training plots (melons), isolation distance between varieties during crop production(sweet corn), and crops that take a season or more to mature (asparagus). When this happens we are committed to getting our produce from other lager-scale local organic-practice growers.

what farm practices do you use and is the produce organic?
All of our gardens are on donated land and use organic farming methods. We don't use any agrochemicals or pesticides in the production of your food and all of our produce is 100% spray free. Due to cost and staff time restrictions we are not certified organic but we are committed to providing you with the healthy and sustainably grown produce. The best way to see our farming practice in action is to visit one of our farms during harvest (May through October). Click here for more information on our farm locations.
How do i join your CSA?
In order to join our CSA, use our website to choose what pick-up site and share type are best for you. Once you select what option are best for you go to the "Join Our CSA page". There you will be able to pay and fill out our CSA membership form.
How can i get an add-on?
Unfortunately, we are not offering add-ons this year. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Can i visit any of the global gardens farm?
Yes! We are very busy during our growing season (May through October) but we love for people to come and see the work our staff and farmers are doing. If you're a CSA member you can arrange to drop by our farms during one of our harvest and see the your farmer in action. During the season we harvest on Wednesdays and Fridays. Click here for our contact information.
How do i use my ebt/snap card to pay for my csa?
Unfortunately we are only able to accept EBT/SNAP payment on our Tuesday Jordan street pick-up. In order to pay with EBT/SNAP just bring your card to pick-up and you will be charged a weekly rate. Click here to see our weekly rates.
Can I join after CSA pick-ups have already started?
Absolutely, If you missed the pre-season sign up you can join late. We will pro-rate your share so that you do not pay for the weeks that you missed. The date you will start to pick up will depend on the date you sign up. We need usually at least a week in advance to order/harvest for your share.
Do you offer any payment plans for shares?
Usually CSA customers pay up front, prior to the growing season, so that farmers can use these funds to purchase seeds, tools, compost, and other necessities.
It’s also important to us that our produce be accessible to eaters of various economic realities, and we understand that not everyone has the full amount all at once. You are welcome to send us a deposit of $50.00 to reserve your share and make several payments before the start of the CSA in late May. You can also purchase a summer share and decide later whether to purchase the fall share, if space is available. We can make this work for you! Just ask.
However, unless you are using an EBT card, YOU CANNOT PAY US WEEKLY IN CASH.
