What is a CSA?

A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a summer-long subscription for a weekly bag full of fresh, spray-free, locally grown veggies grown by farmers with refugee backgrounds here in the Treasure Valley.  By joining a Global Gardens CSA, you are supporting small-scale farmers, strengthening our local food system, and guaranteeing yourself some of the healthiest, tastiest produce around.

Choose CSA, Choose Community

Joining a CSA is the most direct way to receive local produce and support your farmer neighbors. The vegetables you receive are harvested within a day of CSA pick-up and are washed, packed, and delivered to your home or pick-up locations by the Global Gardens farmers who grow the produce. Even local farmers markets require an extra step, but a CSA is as close to farm-to-table as it gets.

We strive to create a stronger connection between farmers and the communities they feed. Becoming a part of our CSA allows you to interact with the farmer growing your food and develop a deeper understanding of small-scale farming and our local food system. Know the farmer, enjoy your veggies, and see the impact your dollars make right here in our community.

Paying for your share up front allows farmers to purchase seeds, supplies, and other necessities for the upcoming season before any income can be generated. In exchange for this commitment, your "share" cost reflects a portion of the to-be-grown vegetables over the following summer. This model allows farmers to confidently invest in their businesses and provides financial security throughout the season.
How It Works:

When visiting the registration form, you'll be prompted to make several choices regarding your CSA.

First, Location
We offer several pick-up locations throughout the Treasure Valley, listed below, as well as a home delivery option. With a range of days, times, and locations, you can choose what works best for your schedule and lifestyle.

Home delivery within Boise city limits includes an additional $6/week fee, which is already factored into the CSA cost at registration. If you live outside Boise city limits, a higher delivery fee will apply based on your address. In that case, Global Gardens will invoice you once your location is approved. If you’re unsure about your delivery eligibility or cost, please contact us before making your purchase.

Then, Size.
We offer a Half share and a Full share option. A Half share contains 4-5 vegetable varieties each week, while a Full share will get you 8-10 selections. Both options get picked up weekly during our 6-week fall share season.

Lastly, Payment.
You have the option to pay for your share either in full at time of purchase, or in recurring payments throughout the season. Recurring payments will be charged in four equal installments: the first on the day you sign up and the following on the same day of the next three months.

Picking Up Your Share

Farmers work hard to grow your veggies from the ground up—thank you for picking up your share on time each week! To help you stay on track, we send a courtesy reminder email on your pick-up day.

Can’t make it? You have a few options--we request you give us at least one full days' notice to help us plan and coordinate with the farmers on your behalf.

Your options:
  • Request a hold: We can hold your share at our main farm site near the I-84 Orchard exit, where you can pick it up at your convenience after your CSA day. To request a hold, log into your Local Food Marketplace account, go to Subscriptions, and click “Put Subscriptions on Hold.”
  • Send someone in your place: A friend/family member can pick up for you—just have them give your name.
  • Donate your share: Let us know, and we’ll donate your share for the week.
If you forget to pick up and don’t notify us, we’re sorry--you’ll have to wait until the next week. Unclaimed shares are redistributed at the farmer’s discretion. We are unable to accommodate an alternative pick-up for that week, and we cannot add more produce to your share the following week.

Please note: Once the season begins, your CSA pick-up location is fixed and cannot be changed--except for swaps between Harrison Hollow and St. Luke’s Meridian.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the Food Hub Manager at [email protected]--we’re here to help!

                                                     Cancellation & Refund Policy
CSA memberships are non-refundable except in the case of relocation out of the area. In that case, you may receive a 50% refund for the remaining weeks of the season.

If you’re dissatisfied with the quality of any vegetables in your share, please reach out to the Food Hub Manager and we’ll do our best to make it right.

By purchasing a CSA membership, you acknowledge and agree to these policies.
Thank you for supporting Global Gardens and local farmers!

About our Prices

The price of our CSA shares are based on the actual cost of seeds, production, cultivation, supplies, time, packaging, and site delivery.

We pride ourselves on having the most accessible price point for CSA options in the Treasure Valley. A primary goal of our CSA program is to get high quality produce to as many members of our community as possible, and we take this into consideration highly when determining share cost each season.

As prices for most everything from gas to groceries have increased in the past year, it is known that folks with lower incomes and smaller profit margins are hit the hardest by these effects. Global Gardens farmers, and farm workers in general, heavily rely on their seasonal income to sustain them and their families throughout the year.

In order to sustain our CSA program, farmer success, and the ability to continue providing our community with fresh, local produce, we need to ensure that farmers are appropriately compensated for their time and efforts.

Thank you for your commitment to small-scale farmers, your refugee neighbors, our collective local food system, and vibrant, diverse, healthy communities!
